This CD gives the listener a glimpse of the sounds of the Walt Disney Concert Hall pipe organ both as a solo instrument and with orchestra.

  • PHILIP ALLEN SMITH, Conservator of the WDCH organ. Improvisations to demonstrate the stops, and excerpts from music by Herbert Howells and Charles-Marie Widor.
  • CHERRY RHODES, Adjunct Professor of Organ Studies, USC Thornton School of Music. Soloist in an excerpt from Concierto de Los Angeles by James Hopkins, with members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.
  • DAVID GOODE, Organist and Head of Keyboard - Eton College, UK. An excerpt from Fantasy and Fugue on ŒAd nos, ad salutarem undam, by Franz Liszt.

  • Track 4:           Excerpt from Second Symphony by Charles-Marie Widor (4:52:60)
  • Track 5:           Excerpt from Fantasie and Fugue by Franz Liszt (9:07:74)

Total recording time:  30 minutes and 34:44 seconds

Tracks 2, 3 and 4 were played by Philip Allen Smith.

Included in Track 2 is a short demonstration of the Celesta played by the author.  Also included in Track 2 is a 1-minute excerpt from Concierto de Los Angeles composed by James Hopkins, played by Cherry Rhodes, organist, with members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.  Permission for this excerpt was given by the organist, the composer, and the L.A. Philharmonic.   

Track 5 was played by David Goode.
