Challenges

Did everything go smoothly?
Of course not.

There are always challenges during an installation. Some of the adjustments needed are shown in the following list:
(from February of 2004)

  • Tremolos are noisy – they make a distracting
    clunking sound
  • Corneta Magna VII – toe boards are too wobbly –
all 8 legs need extra bracing
  • Need door handles on the inside of all four Positiv
    doors and Swell box doors
  • Diagnose and fix all leaks throughout the entire
    organ
  • Wind noise through the wood ducts is amplified –
add some felt on main ducts
  • Pedal Flute 16' wind is inadequate – still not good
    in lower notes
  • 32' Violonbasse has 2 or 3 pipes requiring regulation
and retuning – only Stefan can reach them
  • Cords for the electric motors in the bench are
unsightly – change to beige color wire or reroute
  • Repair dent in remote console bench seat
  • Reed pipe resonance tubes do not have corresponding holes in racks – bring drawings and check
  • Swell and Llamada louvers work quietly and effectively, but the Positiv ricochets and creates
    a disturbance.
  • This audible sonic "bump" occurs due to the burst of sound allowed by the opening of the louvers.
It may require a baffle or an adjustment of the armature.
  • Check all sliders for quick movement. Positiv Unda Maris slider motor is slow to engage.  Great Chimney Flute slider is unreliable.
  • All tracker action needs adjustment. Overall, the action is relatively heavy and ungainly.
  • Stefan is experimenting with a revised square geometry.
  • Key touch on main console is still uneven and too heavy.  It will be improved with adjustments.
  • On the Swell and Positiv, there are many cyphers (extraneous tones produced by wind leaks) that come and go.
  • Trompeta de Los Angeles chest has bouncing notes.
  • Llamada stop is not on correct pressure – must be 17.7" as requested.
  • Llamada chest needs one more round of magnet adjustment as sometimes there are dead notes.
